- Welfare assessment and end-point refinement in a mouse model of bone cancer
Experiments using mice to study possible ways to treat human cancer are extremely common, especially those investigating bone cancer. This is one of the most painful cancers in humans, and probably also mice. To prevent mice from experiencing pan means determining when it begins, and removing them from studies before that time. However, it is still largely unknown if the impact of bone cancer on mouse welfare is as severe as it is in humans. This project will investigate the need to end such studies earlier (refine end-points) by allowing mice to ‘tell us’ when they are experiencing pain.
