- Exploring the ‘Other’ within the ‘Other’: Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) non-heterosexual engagement with the London night-time economy.
This project aims to explore the experiences of non-heterosexuals from black and minority ethnic groups (BME) and their engagement with, and visibility within, the London gay scene. Contributing to social geographies of sexuality, the project will involve individual interviews with BME non-heterosexual participants that will enable an exploration of intersecting experiences of homophobia, racism and cultural exclusion in the night-time economy. Particular attention will be paid to how such experiences impact upon the performativity of identity in the process of consumption, with analysis being sensitive to the intersectionality of ethnicity, faith and sexual orientation with other markers of social difference.
