- Identification of genes involved in chronic kidney disease associated with Denys Drash Syndrome
The research I will be conducting this summer involves identifying genes that lead to kidney failure. I will be analysing a model of Denys Drash syndrome and comparing genes in normal kidneys and those carrying a mutation associated with Denys Drash syndrome. The kidney disease of Denys Drash syndrome shows many similarities with a wide range of conditions, including diabetic nephropathy. The identification of these genes could provide novel diagnostic and therapeutic targets for the development of new treatments as well as increasing our understanding of this life-threatening childhood syndrome.
