- Homosexual relations and the law in Britain from the Sexual Offences Act 1967 to the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013
I aim to research into the legal status of homosexuality in Britain since the 1960s, particularly the issue of same-sex couples, and the development of their decriminalisation, and ultimately of equal marriage. I will focus on key events, individuals, and legislative processes which promoted and responded to changes in the law, and also offer an international context, including the work of human rights groups and changing attitudes in British society in this area culminating in the Same-Sex Marriage Bill, and how each reform has been the object of resistance and opposition from a number of areas at every stage.
