- Patient Involvement in Pituitary Multidisciplinary Team Decision Making: the Patient Experience of being Present at the Meeting
Shared Decision Making (SDM) is the standard of care in medical decision making, providing equal roles for the patient and doctor. Many medical decisions are now made through a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT). The integration of SDM into the MDT setting has never been explored. Uniquely, the Newcastle pituitary MDT allows patients to attend the MDT staff member discussion.
This project will comprise a literature review and 3-6 patient semi-structured interviews, aimed at exploring the patient experience of attending the MDT meeting in this way; emphasis will be placed on their understanding of the MDT consultation and any potential adverse effects.
