- Assessment of Risks and Vulnerabilities within Low-Income Waterside Settlements, Bangkok
The informal canal-side settlements in Bangkok face serious social and economic difficulties. Further physical hardships have become a concern following the 2011 flooding. This application funded a field trip to Bangkok to study the risks and vulnerabilities facing these informal communities. My individual task within the group was to study the relationship between the canal and the adjacent houses. This allowed me to understand the effect of flooding on everyday domestic life as well as an opportunity to study examples of individual creativity in response to disaster.
This group research project forms part of on-going collaborative research between Bangkok University and the Global Urban Research Unit of Newcastle University.
