- Investigating telomeric protein-protein interactions using the Yeast Two hybrid system
We will use the yeast two-hybrid system to measure protein-protein interactions that are stimulated by the DNA Damage Response. This tests for physical interactions between proteins/DNA to activate a reporter gene that allows you to easily detect any interactions. The DNA damage response pathway helps to maintain genetic stability, repair damaged tissues and if repair is impossible cause apoptosis (controlled cell death) of damaged cells. Mutations in the DNA damage response pathways can ultimately lead to cancer and premature ageing.
