The development of new medicines is a very long and difficult process. One of the key steps is the synthesis of new molecules for testing as potential drug leads. The synthesis of complex molecules often involves multiple synthetic and isolation steps, leading to time consuming and environmentally unfriendly procedures. This project aims to use an approach, recently developed by this group, which combines several chemical reactions into a single synthetic operation to rapidly make complex “drug like” molecules. These will then be tested for potential therapeutic use as anti-cancer treatments in collaboration with the Northern Institute of Cancer Research.
