This project will explore seven case studies of defections from Parliamentarianism to Royalism during the English Civil Wars. On face value these case studies share in common the change of allegiance but there will also be an attempt to explore the individual contexts of each case. Any new findings may be applicable to a new model of behaviour exhibited by turncoats. Published and primary archival material will be examined in order to draw conclusions regarding circumstances in which defections took place, the motivations behind them and the impact they had upon contemporaries. Information gathered will then be displayed illustrating findings, biographies and a selection of primary material.
