  • Evaluating a New Computer Model for Urban Flood Modelling- Application to the Carlisle 2005 Event

Flood modelling is an essential component in any flood risk management scheme. This project aimed to evaluate a state-of-the-art hydraulic model recently developed in Newcastle University for applications in urban flood modelling, which is a challenge for most of the existing flood simulation tools. Specifically, the project applied the model to accurately reproduce the Carlisle 2005 urban flood event, investigated the effects of space-resolution on computational performance and flood predictions in urban areas, where the topographic features can be complicated and require high-resolution representation, and identified aspects of the model that could be further improved.
