  • A tool for assessing motor planning across the age spectrum: towards understanding the motor difficulties after early brain damage

Hemiplegic cerebral palsy (HCP), which affects around 12,000 UK children, refers to weakness in one side of the body due to damage of the developing brain. Preliminary research has indicated that the "unaffected" side is also mildly impaired due to deficits in action planning (not merely execution). To assess the levels of action planning, a simple tool involving object rotation was devised. We explored its feasibility and applicability in healthy adults. We intend to assess how action planning skills change with age and compare the performance of children with HCP and age-matched controls.
