• What has been the professional and lay media response to the recent Brian Deer articles in the British Medical Journal concerning the Wakefield MMR vaccine affair?

Recent articles by Brian Deer in the BMJ have revealed damning insights into Andrew Wakefield’s professional and academic conduct related to a now retracted article in the Lancet claiming a link between MMR and autism/bowel disorders, which severely adversely affected vaccine uptake in the UK. However, the reporting of these in the wider professional and lay media has not been studied, thus leaving their potential impact upon professionals and the population unknown. This project will search media and professional databases to identify and analyse responses in these media in order to describe and critique how these articles have been reported.
