- Perfluorinated compounds: a cause for neurodevelopmental concern in humans?
Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) have been used extensively in consumer goods for decades, and mainly through animal modelling they have shown to cause neurodevelopmental problems. PFCs have recently become a concern for their levels in pregnant women and the possible affect this will have on a childs neurodevelopment. The project aims to determine the effect of PFCs on human brain cells, by exposing brain cells to different levels of the PFCs, and using specific chemicals to test for cell death mechanisms. The cells will then be examined for protein changes that may occur within the cell due to exposure to PFCs.
