  • Analysing the changes in water mass balance over various areas of the Himalayas using GRACE data.

The Himalayas supply water to over 1.3 billion people so the annual and seasonal variation in the water mass has a significant impact. GRACE allows data to be collected about the mass of water by measuring the inter-satellite range and therefore the relative effect of gravity over a specific location. The analysis of various areas of the Himalayas will allow an insight into where the water mass is increasing and where it is decreasing. These results can then be used to try and predict the future of the Himalayas and the effect climate change is having upon it.
