  • Next-generation sequencing in families with inherited cardiac arrhythmias.

My research involved using a modern technology called ‘next-generation sequencing’, which is transforming the way in which genetic mutations are detected. Mutations in genes can cause several inherited conditions governing heart rhythm. Using next-generation sequencing, my project investigated a family in which sudden fatal or life-threatening disturbances of heart rhythm have occurred, due to unknown genetic causes.  I used this new technology to examine all the genes in the human genome in affected family members, to search for new mutations that may be responsible for their condition.
