Actinomycetes are a prolific producers of natural bioactive compounds. My research focuses on the discovery of new compounds with a novel chemical structure utilizing novel chemical genetics screens. Utilizing this approach we are attempting to discover inhibitors for lipoteichoic acid (LTA) biosynthesis. LTA is a major constituent of the cell wall of gram positive bacteria and essential in the human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus.
