Dr Stephanie Mulrine

Steph is a researcher with a background in medical sociology. Her broad interests are inequalities and how individuals and groups navigate them, and how can we work towards social justice, particularly as it relates to health and wellbeing. Steph has a great deal of expertise using qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews, focus groups, and ethnography.

Given Steph interests and her methodological skillset she has worked on a range of research projects including understanding public perceptions of health data sharing in the NHS, the impact of smoking cessation policies for those in mental health hospitals, and understanding the impact of of COVID-19 on safe discharges from hospitals in care homes.

She has a BA in Sociology (University of York), an MA in Sociology and Social Research (Newcastle University) and a PhD in Medical Sociology (Teesside). Prior to this she was a Research Fellow at Northumbria University before joining Newcastle University, where she remains a Visiting Researcher.
