Professor, Department of Biology and Biochemistry

We are interested in understanding how bacterial signaling systems work, what information they gather, how the different protein components communicate, which genes are switched on or off as a result of signaling, and how these responses adapt the bacterium to the encountered stress. Our work is focused on two main areas: Antibiotic stress response and Environmental stress.

Kevin Paine

Professor, Department of Architecture and Civil engineering

I carry out research in the area of smart and innovative concrete technology. Some of my current research includes bacteria-based self-healing concrete, self-sensing concrete using graphene and other sensors, electrically conductive concrete, and nanotechnology enhanced concrete.  I also carry out research in recycled aggregates, low carbon cement, and geopolymers.
