About our Research
The Eastern European and Russian Research Group (EERRG) seeks to draw together scholars from across HASS, within the University and within the region, whose research focuses on countries, societies and cultures east of the old Iron Curtain, including Russia and other post-Soviet republics. It aims to facilitate research which promotes understanding of these regions, and the connections between their past experiences and their contemporary problems. It seeks to create opportunities for research and creative collaboration, support the development of research funding applications, attract post-graduate students, encouraged impact activities and share expertise, institutional contacts and linguistic and methodological expertise. The group's interdiscplinary approach and ethos is reflected in its membership from across GPS, HCA, SACS, SML and the London Campus. Current research themes include issues of memory, identify, culture and creative practice, especially in the light of post-socialist transformation. Many group members share a broad interest in the political, social, cultural, economic and creative legacy of highly authoritatrian and violent politicial regimes and the profound impact of war, revolution and the Holocaust in the region and how these have been confronted and represented since the fall of the Iron Curtain. EERRF will encourage research in these fields and others and provide a focal point for research events, methodogloical and practical discussions.
In particular, it sees to act as an advocate for scholarship and scholars from this important region. EERRG aims to support, develop and publicise the work of scholars from all disciplines, from all chronological periods from across the region and at all stages of their careers, including post-graduate researchers. The ethos of the group aims to share practical, theoretical, lingujistic and methodological knowledge with the aim of fostering collaborative and inter-disciplinary research in the short-term and in the longer-term joint research applications.
