The European Bacillus Secretion Group (EBSG) is an international research consortium with the objective of engineering strains of Bacillus subtilis and related industrial micro-organisms for efficient production of extracellular native and heterologous proteins

EBSG was formed in 1991 during a workshop on "Bacillus protein secretion" held on the Friesian island of Schiermonnikoog (The Netherlands), and is co-ordinated by Sierd Bron

EBSG holds six-monthly meetings on the secretion of proteins from Bacillus subtilis. The tenth Spring Meeting was held under the BACELL umbrella in Bayreuth, Germany between 12-16 May 2000

EBSG consists of eleven research laboratories - 7 in academic institutions, 2 in governmental institutions and 2 European biotechnology companies. The group leaders meet at least twice a year.
