Recruitment Progress

We have now recruited thirty-three participants into the trial, that's over a third of the total target of 90. Well done to all our sites. (Nov 2024) 

Long-term study progress

Royal Papworth and Newcastle are now both able to recruit into the long-term follow-up study and recruited their first participants.  All other sites are working hard to get open and be able to offer this observational study to their E-CLAD trial participants.

Fifth and Final Site open to recruitment

Congratulations to our final site Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, led by Dr Karthik Santhanakrishnan, who are now open to recruitment. The team, based at Wythenshawe Hospital, will be supported by NHS Blood and Transplant who will provide ECP treatment for the trial. They are based at The Christie Hospital, also in Manchester. Trial Paper Published

Our first trial paper has been published in the BMJ Open Respiratory Journal. The paper describes the trial protocol and is part of our commitment to openness. The paper, which is open access, can be accessed by clicking the following link: E-CLAD Protocol Paper

Recruitment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham

Congratulations to Dr Thompson and his team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham who have recruited their first participant into the trial. (Mar 2024)

Long-term Follow-up study funded

Funding has been received for a long-term follow-up to the E-CLAD UK trial.  This observational study (with no intervention), will collect data for a further 18 months from trial participants. This will help us to understand the long-term effect that a course of ECP treatment has on the health and healthcare usage of lung transplant patients with chronic rejection, or CLAD (Feb 2024).

Fourth Site Up and Running

Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are the latest site to get the green light to start recruiting participants into the E-CLAD UK trial. Study ECP treatment for participants at Royal Papworth will take place at Addenbrooke's Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Recruitment at Harefield Hospital

Congratulations to Dr Carby and his team at Harefield Hospital who have recruited their first participant into the trial. (Aug 2023)

Third Site Up and Running

Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust are the latest site to get the ok to recruit patients into the E-CLAD UK trial. Well done to Dr Carby and his team at Harefield hospital. (May 2023)

Second Site Up and Running

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust have become our second site to receive the green light to start recruitment. Congratulations to the Birmingham team and we look forward to the first patient being recruited there. (Apr 2023)

Public Engagement Award Nomination

The E-CLAD UK trial was nominated for an award at Newcastle University's 2023 Engagement and Place awards in the Engaging for Health, Well-being and Societal benefit category. The awards set out to showcase and recognise great examples of engagement from across the University. While we didn't win, the nomination is an acknowledgement of the great work being done by Jo and Alex and all of our patient and public contributors. (May 2023)

First Recruits

The E-CLAD UK is now officially up and running with our first participant recruited into the study at Newcastle. Well done to everyone involved. (Feb 2023)

First Site Up and Running

Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust were our first site to receive the green light to start recruitment on 9th February 2023. Congratulations to the Newcastle team and thank you for all the hard work to get up and running. (Feb 2023)

Regulatory Approvals

As of 2 November, E-CLAD UK has received its regulatory approvals. This means that the Research Ethics Committee, the Health Research Authority and the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority have all reviewed the trial and said that they are happy for the trial to go ahead.  We will now push forward with getting our research sites up and running so that we can start recruiting patients.

Successful Trial Launch

On Thursday 9th June we had a trial launch meeting in York with staff from the five research sites around the country. The meeting was a great success with everyone eager to get the trial up and running.
