Dr Esther Okoro

Esther is a medical doctor and mental health specialist with an interest in the intersection of digital innovation and mental health care. She earned her undergraduate medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria and completed her horsemanship before relocating to the UK, where she has worked across various healthcare specialties. For the past six years, she has specialised in mental health and is currently a Specialty Registrar in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with the Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust. Esther is also pursuing a Master’s degree in Medical Education at the University of Warwick and is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and trainees.  She was a sub-Investigator in ASCEnD Trial (Aripiprazole/sertraline combination: clinical and cost-effective in comparison with quetiapine for the treatment of bipolar depression, An open label randomised controlled trial) within Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust. As of June 2025, she works as a Research Assistant at the Newcastle University Translational and Clinical Research Institute, contributing to projects at the forefront of digital mental health innovation.
