Dr Cen Cong
- Research Associate, Translational and Clinical Research; UKRI Metascience AI Early Career Fellow (2025 - 2027)
- Email: cen.cong@newcastle.ac.uk
Cen works at the intersection of digital health, psychology, languages and engineering. Her research in the lab focuses on how digital technologies can support meaningful, equitable change in healthcare settings, with a particular interest in the human factors that shape technology use and impact. She is currently involved in a range of projects related to evidence synthesis, clinical reasoning, and patient-facing tools.
Alongside this applied work, she is increasingly drawn to the deeper question of how emerging technologies are reshaping the experience of doing research itself. In 2025, she was awarded the UKRI MetaScience AI Early Career Fellowship (Co-funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation) to investigate how AI affects research anxiety and originality across disciplines, with a focus on early career researchers.
Her fellowship is part of a broader effort to understand better the emotional and epistemic costs of rapid technological change in science. Through this work, Cen hopes to contribute to a more reflective integration of AI into health research, one that preserves human curiosity, values intellectual effort, and strengthens the psychological foundations of discovery.
