Shipyard crane, Wallsend. The Wallsend yard was first established in 1842 by John Coutts, and later taken over by Charles Sheridan Swann. It was the last of Swann Hunter's yards to close, in 2006. During 130 years in ship building, the company constructed more than 1600 vessels. Swan Hunter now operates as a design and engineering company.
