The statue of Cardinal Basil Hume (1923-1999), who was born in Newcastle, outside the city's Cathedral Church of St Mary. Cardinal Hume was appointed Archbishop of Westminster by Pope Paul VI in 1976. The statue was unveiled by the Queen in 2002.
