St Paul's Church, Jarrow. The monastic site at St Paul's (twinned with St Peter's, Wearmouth) dates back to 681AD. The current church building incorporates the Anglo-Saxon chancel, together with what is thought to be the oldest stained-glass window in the world. The monastery was founded by Benedict Biscop (d.689) and was home to the Venerable Bede (d.735).
