The Metrocentre, Gateshead. The centre opened in 1986. Together with the adjoining retail park, the centre has more than 340 shops, and covers an area of 194,100 sq. metres (approx. 48 acres). It is promoted as Europe's Largest Shopping and Leisure Centre.
