The Angel of North, designed by Antony Gormley and built at Hartlepool Steel Fabrications Ltd, was completed in 1998. The Angel stands on a hill at the southern edge of Low Fell, Gateshead, overlooking the A1. It is 65 feet (20 metres) tall and has a 175 foot (54 metre) wingspan.
