Newcastle University's Armstrong Building, named after Tyneside engineer and industrialist William George Armstrong, Baron Armstrong of Cragside (1810-1900). In 1871, Armstrong founded the College of Physical Science, one of the institutions that would later give rise to the University. The college was renamed Armstrong College in 1904.
