A branch of Northern Rock in Northumberland Street, Newcastle. The Northern Rock formed as a building society in Newcastle in 1965. It became a bank in 1997. During the credit crisis of 2007, it became the first UK bank in 150 years to experience a 'run'. It was taken into state ownership in 2008, and part of it subsequently sold to Virgin Money in 2011.
