Gilesgate Welfare Flower and Vegetable Show, 6th August 1956. One of the events was a 'most original dress' competition. The winner was June Thornton as 'Thing' a silver monster made up of squares. The Mayoress Mrs E. Thurlow, mother of the Mayor, opened the show.
