Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
I I start (interruption) ehm |
Speaker 3: |
next week is it |
Speaker 2: |
yep sixth of June for six weeks go back into school for a week then I finish the course |

(unclear) then try and find a job or go to the college or (pause) whatever |
Speaker 3: |
where are you going for your work experience |
Speaker 2: |
down the Midland Bank for the first three weeks back in |
Speaker 3: |
oh right |
Speaker 2: |
which should be good you don't do anything like that in A levels (interruption) (unclear) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
no I've d I've done the eh I did one week in the GCSE year |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
well we all did |
Speaker 2: |
yeah that's right |
Speaker 3: |
I did eh (pause) can't remember oh I went to the (laughter) went to a glue factory that's right |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
well what did you do then |
Speaker 2: |
I went down to Natwest Bank doing all the clerical jobs making tea (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
I remember we had a (pause) we had a fire alarm in that week and then the first day I was there someone (pause) burnt the floor off on one of the |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
warehouses or whatever (unclear) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
so how did you get the idea of going to a glue factory |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
and |
Speaker 3: |
yeah I made a quick choice |
Speaker 2: |
aye |
Speaker 3: |
and that was that |
Speaker 2: |
that's what I did actually (interruption) (unclear) choose to go to Natwest (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) yeah (interruption) uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
just got the list |
Speaker 3: |
yeah (pause) how long is it till Mr (NAME) retires then |
Speaker 2: |
oh I don't know I thought it was this week |
Speaker 3: |
ah is it is it |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) well it'll be the end of next term then yeah |
Speaker 3: |
yeah eh |
Speaker 2: |
thank God (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
oh right |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) our friend (interruption) yes (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
I was just hoping you (unclear) say (unclear) as soon as possible (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
ehm (pause) (laughter) so what are you doing this week then anything (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
eh nothing I'll probably just go for a few more driving lessons |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
do the (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
I saw you for the first time actually |
Speaker 2: |
when |
Speaker 3: |
driving past here last week sometime was it at the weekend or something |
Speaker 2: |
aye I don't know |
Speaker 3: |
I keep looking out to see if I can see you going past |
Speaker 2: |
aye eeh you should stay off the road mind when (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) I have |
Speaker 2: |
eeh (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
are you just learning with your (pause) with your mam or dad is it you're not having |
Speaker 2: |
I'm learning with both mostly my mam I'm not having driving lessons |
Speaker 3: |
not having any |
Speaker 2: |
just go straight to the test |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
no (unclear) but I can get a cancellation any time that I want (pause) well if there is one spare that is |
Speaker 2: |
so why don't you learn |
Speaker 3: |
I thought (laughter) ehm (pause) oh I don't know I think I'll learn in the summer holidays when I've got all these exams out and everything (interruption) out of the way |
Speaker 2: |
mm so will you go for lessons or will your mam and like your dad drive you |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) I think I'd rather go for lessons (laughter) (unclear) you know |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
estate it's a bit clumsy to have on the first (pause) few weeks and that isn't it |
Speaker 2: |
so you're not doing any more sports this week or |
Speaker 3: |
don't think so (pause) used to go to (pause) cricket with (NAME) obviously |
Speaker 2: |
yes |
Speaker 3: |
but eh (pause) given that up now I think for this year well until the exams are over anyway |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
maybe go again in the summer holidays so I don't know |
Speaker 2: |
no he's asked me to take over his place in it now |
Speaker 3: |
has he |
Speaker 2: |
yeah he's not interested in (unclear) so he's got his girlfriend and that (interruption) now you see |
Speaker 3: |
oh right I might eh (pause) I might go up to the (pause) club you know |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
just with the MRU sometime and practise on the indoor nets eh the (pause) all weather nets sometimes |
Speaker 2: |
I was |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
it looks quite good (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
eh thingie's a (pause) chairman there you know Mr (NAME) used to go to the (pause) teacher at the Chapel Park (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
oh I remember that |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
the big man |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) he's a (pause) chairman there so (pause) ehm (pause) |
Speaker 2: |
aye |
Speaker 3: |
yeah (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
the ringing (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
ehm (pause) so you're not doing any more sports this weekend then |
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) you're not |
Speaker 3: |
don't think so (interruption) just |
Speaker 2: |
I I'll be going off for a game of tennis something like that |
Speaker 3: |
just watched the grand prix at the weekend do you watch that |
Speaker 2: |
no I was away camping who won |
Speaker 3: |
Damon Hill |
Speaker 2: |
Damon Hill |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
oh yes that's right I saw that in |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh yeah (laughter) eh (pause) (unclear) that quite a lot (pause) of it as you know |
Speaker 2: |
I would have watched it but when I went away camping there was nothing at all there so |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh where did you go like |
Speaker 2: |
up to the Lake District |
Speaker 3: |
with |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) Keswick |
Speaker 3: |
with |
Speaker 2: |
oh (NAME) and all his friends all the big lads (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
the hard men |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) and that was it |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
yeah nothing to do there at night times like just (pause) go into Keswick because we were about three and a half mile away and lived on a farm like Ashness (pause) we just went down (pause) four pubs we got turned away from because there was too many of us |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
all rowdiness in there |
Speaker 3: |
pubs |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) I can't believe that |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
talking about the grand prix remember that (pause) time we went to the RAC rally |
Speaker 2: |
oh (interruption) aye |
Speaker 3: |
down at Civic Centre (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
Civic Centre |
Speaker 3: |
yeah saw them all driving yeah |
Speaker 2: |
yeah with their lights on blinding we when they drove by (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
there was that that eh that woman remember her she went the fastest for (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
oh yes Louise wasn't it |
Speaker 3: |
Louise Aitken |
Speaker 2: |
aye |
Speaker 3: |
Jones or somebody like that wasn't it |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
then he then he knocked somebody over |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) aye they were all throwing their helmets out of the car weren't they (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
that's coming back up here this year you know that |
Speaker 2: |
is it |
Speaker 3: |
at Kielder forest I thought I might go up (interruption) sometime |
Speaker 2: |
aye go up (interruption) there |
Speaker 3: |
in the night time |
Speaker 2: |
what date's that summer holidays |
Speaker 3: |
no it's eh (pause) it's normally snowing (unclear) in the forest |
Speaker 2: |
oh yes |
Speaker 3: |
must be about November I think |
Speaker 2: |
it should be good that |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
I'd like to go and see that one |
Speaker 3: |
oh (unclear) be (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
that's what I've always wanted to do but school's been in the way of it |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm (pause) I'd quite like to have a go at something like that |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm it'd be good |
Speaker 3: |
in fact (interruption) (unclear) this year (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) (laughter) (pause) it'd be a good experience (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) it's good that |
Speaker 3: |
drink my glass already |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
ehm right let's think (pause) (laughter) what about football do you watch the football at the minute or not |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah I'm quite interested in it but now that there's no Newcastle on it's the end of the season |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
it's not that good |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) it's all foreign countries playing (interruption) that's the thing |
Speaker 3: |
yeah (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
I'm a bit into the |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) today |
Speaker 3: |
you've got a horse on this afternoon |
Speaker 2: |
that's right |
Speaker 3: |
will you give us a hot tip on that (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
uh-huh (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
I says 'Cardinal Press' (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
that's it |
Speaker 2: |
ten past two |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
so eh (pause) I'll watch the world there's loads of World Cup on this summer isn't there |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
on the telly but (pause) they've bought up every match or something (unclear) England |
Speaker 2: |
yes it's not going to (interruption) be worth watching though |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
it won't be the (interruption) same (unclear) England |
Speaker 3: |
no just (pause) Ireland isn't it |
Speaker 2: |
aye |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) many people to cheer for |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
anyway when you think about the teams like Greece and (unclear) (unclear) hammered |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
that's not fair is it |
Speaker 2: |
no |
Speaker 3: |
no oh |
Speaker 2: |
oh the europ nineteen ninety six (unclear) to Manchester (pause) be good to (unclear) down there mind |
Speaker 3: |
well (interruption) there's some games in Newcastle now (interruption) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) (unclear) (unclear) (unclear) (interruption) is there |
Speaker 3: |
Saint James's Park yeah |
Speaker 2: |
which ones |
Speaker 3: |
I don't know |
Speaker 2: |
just like (pause) England would be playing there |
Speaker 3: |
well somebody'll be playing there yeah one of the groups has been (pause) centred up here so |
Speaker 2: |
that'd be good |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
I think (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
eh (pause) now then (pause) (laughter) (pause) yeah that's right this GNVQ thing what do you (pause) thinking of doing after to follow on from that are you going to do the next stage or not |
Speaker 2: |
eh I'm not |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
because (unclear) like a lot of people are in two year courses now it's it should be like opening up all the job vacancies if not that I might consider YT training because then after two years they usually keep you on anyway |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
and then at least I can say I've (pause) got training (pause) like work experience there but if all comes (unclear) I'll probably go to college |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
no |
Speaker 3: |
no (pause) it's (pause) what about (NAME) and the rest (interruption) are they |
Speaker 2: |
oh they're all staying at (interruption) school |
Speaker 3: |
are they |
Speaker 2: |
yeah (NAME)'s mainly staying there because of the girlfriend (interruption) again |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh yeah is she (pause) coming now is she you're going and she's coming |
Speaker 2: |
yeah I'm going (interruption) and she's coming |
Speaker 3: |
where's she been |
Speaker 2: |
ay |
Speaker 3: |
where's she been up till now |
Speaker 2: |
Westfields |
Speaker 3: |
(NAME) (NAME)'s |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
mm she's been at Westfield high private school |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) are they well off are they |
Speaker 2: |
oh well yes they are actually (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
she's getting out of the sports car (pause) great |
Speaker 3: |
she's the same age as us is she |
Speaker 2: |
no she's a year younger her gran's they say it's her gran with the money you see and she's buying a sports |
Speaker 3: |
her gran |
Speaker 2: |
her gran (pause) (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
I don't know whether I'll go to university at the end of this (pause) A level thing or not |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
ehm (pause) it seems if you do a course on something like English or Law what I'm doing |
Speaker 2: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 3: |
at A level you have to stay for about four years |
Speaker 2: |
that (interruption) that would be |
Speaker 3: |
I went to see one of those interviews you know like careers interviews (interruption) last week |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
complete waste of time just get a print out on that computer that's all you get (interruption) like we used to get about two years ago |
Speaker 2: |
in careers right |
Speaker 3: |
saying if you can be a bricklayer (interruption) or a (unclear) or a racing driver or something (interruption) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) aye that's it (interruption) I got a painter and decorator for mine |
Speaker 3: |
did you |
Speaker 2: |
yeah I went 'great' |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
which I quite understand because I said I liked all the outdoor (interruption) activities |
Speaker 3: |
yeah (laughter) (unclear) painting and decorating (interruption) outside |
Speaker 2: |
well never mind |
Speaker 3: |
so I don't know |
Speaker 2: |
yeah I'd prefer to get a job mind (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
even if you go there's no guarantee you'd get a job when you come back so |
Speaker 2: |
if I got offered a job mind I'd take it straight away |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
because there's not much going |
Speaker 3: |
well it depends (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
relatively (unclear) toilet cleaner |
Speaker 2: |
well (laughter) (unclear) (pause) want to save up for a little car (pause) (unclear) get me from A to B (pause) |
Speaker 3: |
some people that went to university that we know down there I'll not mention any names |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
but he went to university for about four years and he came back (pause) about eighteen months ago and he hasn't got a job at all yet and then his brother who's a year (pause) older than me he just stopped in the middle of his A level course and got a job on Midland Bank and he's getting |
Speaker 2: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 3: |
now he's on about fifteen thousand a year so |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
I don't know whether it's worth it or not |
Speaker 2: |
no I wouldn't (interruption) say it was |
Speaker 3: |
maybe not |
Speaker 2: |
not to do that so anyway why why did you say you were giving up cricket too much work |
Speaker 3: |
well yeah I'll I'll do it I think in (pause) seven weeks is it end of this term |
Speaker 2: |
yep so you will be (interruption) going (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
just get my |
Speaker 2: |
it's just yous were good weren't you oh apart from that time yous collapsed |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh (unclear) (interruption) (unclear) first ball ducked (unclear) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
yeah (unclear) (unclear) (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
had to (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
that was at (pause) county ground wasn't it at Northumberland |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
yes were you there |
Speaker 2: |
no I wasn't |
Speaker 3: |
you were at one of those games weren't you |
Speaker 2: |
eh I was at one |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
I don't know whether you won or (pause) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
it was tight I know that |
Speaker 3: |
I can't remember probably not I would have remembered if we had |
Speaker 2: |
aye (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
I would go to that (pause) international match you know at Jesmond that they have every year the England versus The Rest Of The World |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
I would go to that (interruption) quite good |
Speaker 2: |
are you interested in (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
what (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
even though The Rest Of The World always win |
Speaker 2: |
oh (laughter) anyway it might |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) ehm (pause) (laughter) |
Speaker 1: |
what did you do over the bank holiday |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) that's the end of that (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
that's right (laughter) (pause) called Gaby |
Speaker 3: |
how many have you had you've had about three haven't you |
Speaker 2: |
oh we've had three but they've |
Speaker 3: |
I (unclear) that yes (pause) how long have you had this one |
Speaker 2: |
two year now still classed as a little kitten she's tiny |
Speaker 3: |
was that the one that (pause) changed its (pause) gender half way (interruption) through (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
no no that was Sophie no it wasn't |
Speaker 3: |
I remember ringing up one day and saying |
Speaker 2: |
it oh no (interruption) that was Harry |
Speaker 3: |
Fred's Fred's Katie or something like that |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) Harry Holly (interruption) became a Harry (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) that's right (interruption) uh-huh that's right |
Speaker 2: |
because we discovered something that's right (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
how how long how old was it it was about |
Speaker 2: |
it was about (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
twenty five or something like that (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) I think it was about three year old when we discovered (pause) so (pause) Holly became a Harry (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
you paid close attention to that cat |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) poor thing still you take your dog down the golf course do you |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
and nick all the (interruption) golf balls (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
my golf ball finding machine yes (laughter) uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
yeah until we lose them all up on the reservoir well you lose them all |
Speaker 3: |
well the (unclear) (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) three hits (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
I haven't played golf for a long time actually I'll have to go to the (pause) golf course if |
Speaker 2: |
John Jacobs |
Speaker 3: |
yeah (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) actually driving range |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
I like going upstairs because then like when you hit the ball it goes further you see |
Speaker 3: |
makes you feel as if (interruption) it's gone further uh-huh (interruption) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) yeah (interruption) I'm a good player (laughter) (pause) pitch and putt (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
ah |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah that's right playing golf that's when we went with |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
was it it seems to me (interruption) that |
Speaker 3: |
two three two game wasn't it |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
with you (pause) and my dad wasn't it |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
yeah that's right |
Speaker 2: |
that's right |
Speaker 3: |
you won (pause) I think |
Speaker 2: |
by one stroke was this |
Speaker 3: |
yeah something like that |
Speaker 2: |
it was your dad doing all the work mind I was (pause) not very good (laughter) (pause) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
met my old piano teacher in the |
Speaker 2: |
oh from (interruption) Chile isn't it |
Speaker 3: |
used to live along there |
Speaker 2: |
yeah yeah |
Speaker 3: |
South American maniac |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
I haven't done that for about (pause) six months now |
Speaker 2: |
why not |
Speaker 3: |
I get sick of the (pause) practising an hour every night or something she wanted me to do can not be doing that a waste of time |
Speaker 2: |
I must admit I can't I would couldn't be bothered to do that |
Speaker 3: |
twelve quid a week in the end she used to charge |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
or was it ten it was too much anyway |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
and she moved through to Darras Hall or whatever it was so |
Speaker 2: |
she must have been making some money off it then |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
I think so she used to get about fifteen (pause) kids you know and one old man (pause) (laughter) I don't know whether if he learns the piano |
Speaker 2: |
you said she was like a secluded woman wasn't she |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm never came out |
Speaker 2: |
kept herself by herself |
Speaker 3: |
yeah all the curtains were drawn |
Speaker 2: |
mm it's like the grass was dead long on the outside no one lived there it looked like |
Speaker 3: |
she was a bit eh |
Speaker 2: |
strange |
Speaker 3: |
yes (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) to say the least |
Speaker 3: |
I know |
Speaker 2: |
anyway what do you reckon |
Speaker 3: |
well I well I've never been a big fan of him like but eh you have to feel sorry for him crashing all the people getting killed in the racing at the minute |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
it's a bit dodgy every time you watch it you're a bit nervous |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
it's not that good really |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) I'd be a bit frightened going round them corners hundred and fifty mile an hour then (interruption) somebody come |
Speaker 3: |
they want them to reduce they want them to reduce all the speeds now so |
Speaker 2: |
aye |
Speaker 3: |
I don't know whether that might spoil it though |
Speaker 2: |
but does that count for the Indy Five Hundreds and all then |
Speaker 3: |
no I don't think so |
Speaker 2: |
well just the Formula One |
Speaker 3: |
it's boring that though that Indy just (interruption) going round in circles and that |
Speaker 2: |
yeah round and round and round yeah (pause) it's still like (pause) it's thrilling when you're in the car though |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
to go two hundred and two mile an hour around the thing very frightening that |
Speaker 3: |
it'd be quite good |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) (unclear) (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
couldn't do it |
Speaker 2: |
good insurance policy mind |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm yeah |
Speaker 2: |
yeah (pause) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
so what kind of car would you get if are you going to get a car when you've (pause) if you took your test would you get a car straight away or what |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
could you afford it (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
no I couldn't afford it no (laughter) I'd probably just drive my mum's car the Polo |
Speaker 3: |
the Polo yeah |
Speaker 2: |
it's a nice car it's quite nippy |
Speaker 3: |
it's just got the wrong engine in it (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
yeah that's it (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) is that illegal is it (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
no it's (interruption) not (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
I don't know whether I don't know |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
it would have to be a cheap one |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) I we I was considering sharing with my two brothers |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
but then I saw it like (NAME) would have it all night (NAME) would drive it to school and from school (interruption) and stuff (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
I wouldn't get my hands on it so |
Speaker 3: |
so is he going to learn then or what |
Speaker 2: |
who (NAME) |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
no |
Speaker 3: |
no (interruption) just (interruption) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) he hasn't bothered (interruption) no he hasn't |
Speaker 3: |
oh I haven't done that I must admit I will though as soon as I get round to it |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) as soon as it was my birthday I sent away for mine |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
it only took a week to get it |
Speaker 3: |
November fifth |
Speaker 2: |
yeah (pause) bonfires |
Speaker 3: |
when did you start driving then (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
oh I didn't start until January |
Speaker 3: |
oh I was going to say (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
I think (pause) oh no it wasn't January |
Speaker 3: |
was it |
Speaker 2: |
hit the front of it (unclear) (interruption) icy weather |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
no (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) all the icy weather when (NAME) went down the hill next to college went bang into the back of a van his fault that we had to pay the seven hundred pound like the driver (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) (unclear) in the ice shouldn't it along the (interruption) end of that street there |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) mm very (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
I sit here at the window (laughter) all hours of the night and (interruption) you see my face 'yeah there's another one' (laughter) it's like a ice like a like a pond a frozen (interruption) pond at the end of (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) (unclear) (interruption) yeah (unclear) yeah |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) three hundred and sixty degree spins on it |
Speaker 2: |
it's like when we used to have the cottage in all the bad weather like we had about like three foot walls and all the snow used to cover all (interruption) the (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
that was at (pause) |
Speaker 2: |
Allendale |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
Ninebanks where it was |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) it was all right |
Speaker 2: |
it was nice place a nice place to get rid of like get away from it all |
Speaker 3: |
did you own it did you or did you rent it |
Speaker 2: |
mm well we owned it for about like for abou about three year and then we just gave it back to them |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
and they bought it back and we just rent it |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
it wasn't worth it in the end because it was (pause) to and from and like we (interruption) couldn't get away much |
Speaker 3: |
so you went up there enough yeah |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
it was just like a second home but now we my mum wants to take it back up again that |
Speaker 3: |
bet it was good up there |
Speaker 2: |
it's mm it's nice and secluded apart from the odd farm around |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
it's good you can take your motorbikes your quads |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
go across fields |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
it's good |
Speaker 3: |
we know people up there (pause) up the up right at the |
Speaker 2: |
aye |
Speaker 3: |
two fairly old people |
Speaker 2: |
mm you see some youngsters hit like backpacking along |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
they'd come in like and they would stay in your byre for a couple of days yeah |
Speaker 3: |
stay in your |
Speaker 2: |
your byre |
Speaker 3: |
byre oh yeah that's right |
Speaker 2: |
the barn |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
although the cows would be kept next |
Speaker 3: |
yes (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
it was good mind because you'd go across to the farm all day |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
just like go in the hay hay like (pause) barns but then like if we did that we'd have to help out muck out the byre you see |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
which wasn't very nice (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
who was it that used to own that place like was it some (pause) relations or just friends (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
oh no just when we moved |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
when we came over and like we just introduced ourselves then we're just (pause) good friends from then on have (unclear) friends |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) it was good it's good because like they lend you their quad you see when you go up and like you can go in their fields and one of the fields is where like the mines there were about four mines hit |
Speaker 3: |
mines |
Speaker 2: |
mines the eh (pause) bombs |
Speaker 3: |
oh right I thought you meant like pits no uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
oh there is (pause) mines at the top (interruption) small mines (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) yeah (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
but like where the bombs hit |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
like it's all like (pause) bumps and everything you're allowed to go in (unclear) and things like that it's good |
Speaker 3: |
too bad if there's one still there |
Speaker 2: |
mm yeah it's good to |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) it would be one of those places where you can do (pause) see them |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
there was some herd of deer or something like that I remember |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
being born |
Speaker 2: |
that's right you (interruption) could see |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
you could see deers foxes when you used to go to the windows (interruption) (unclear) down the field |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh yeah |
Speaker 2: |
it was nice |
Speaker 3: |
it was like when we went off on holiday in the Highlands |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
beside the Cairngorms there we |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
it was quite good apart from the dog |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
chasing the rabbits all the time they never work out that they can't catch them |
Speaker 2: |
talking about wildlife when we went away camping this weekend you know we we were sitting around the bonfire anyway there was half the site was on the farmer's land but we had his permission it was only a little fire and like we were |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
yeah and then the night after that (pause) we eh went up walking on the fells with wor torches and that and like do you know when you see all the documentaries about the sheep and like the animal's dead but like been (interruption) ripped open and that |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm yeah |
Speaker 2: |
there's three sheep exactly like that and we were wondering what was doing it all because it couldn't have been a fox (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
all ripped up |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
they were they (unclear) their |
Speaker 3: |
was there not supposed to be some (pause) thing around (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
like a black (interruption) panther or something yeah |
Speaker 3: |
black (pause) puma or something around (interruption) (unclear) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
was it then we had the lads came (unclear) 'there it is' (interruption) yeah |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) (unclear) so everyone was frightened that night |
Speaker 3: |
I don't know |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
some kind of panther has it escaped from somewhere or is it supposed to be breeding around here or something |
Speaker 2: |
I don't know I think (interruption) it was supposed to be escaped or something |
Speaker 3: |
I don't know how it is (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
maybe I (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
maybe you nearly met it |
Speaker 2: |
aye that's it |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
there was a cave me and (NAME) went up to you know we were too frightened to go in anyway with seeing all the dead sheep so we just walked away |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
because we were collecting wood for the fire (pause) |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) some axe murderer you know you caught him or something and a thousand pound reward |
Speaker 2: |
well we got a fright because there was somebody shouting at us so we had to put the out the fire quickly because we didn't know who it was to get away and then he just says 'oh is Thomas there' after eh everything had been put out so we had to set it all back up |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
it took us ages to get it going again (pause) God sat there until about |
Speaker 3: |
sounds like my idea of hell |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
who was it all these people from (pause) (NAME)'s friends (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
yeah (NAME)'s friends like (NAME) |
Speaker 3: |
oh yeah uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
(NAME) didn't go he's too much of a poser he couldn't (unclear) in the wild |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) but it was really packed out |
Speaker 3: |
was it |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah like inside Keswick we couldn't get anywhere so we had to go to Ashness Farm |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
but it was nice right down the hill you saw all the owls and everything kestrels (pause) all the nights you could hear the owls hooting |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
it was good do it again definitely yeah |
Speaker 3: |
did you go into Keswick like |
Speaker 2: |
yeah we went into Keswick (pause) for wor breakfast |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
oh (unclear) yes |
Speaker 2: |
I mean I wasn't drinking or anything (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
no no just watching |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
but it was (pause) it was good |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
bit over priced though |
Speaker 3: |
did you see that car showroom there's a car showroom at Keswick with all (pause) old |
Speaker 2: |
oh Cars Of The Stars yeah we walked by it but we were all bankrupt on the day that we went on Monday |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
ay so like we went through and we couldn't afford it to get in because we thought it was going to be free so we just had to go by it was all like supposed to be James Bond cars (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
it was (unclear) they were driving round displaying when we went up |
Speaker 2: |
were they |
Speaker 3: |
yeah (pause) good |
Speaker 2: |
yeah we went through and like |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) James's bo James Bond's car (unclear) side (interruption) and (unclear) (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) mm-hm (interruption) you get some things like (pause) Del Boy's car you know that |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
three wheeler thing |
Speaker 2: |
aye the Robin Reliant |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh (unclear) everyone |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
ehm (pause) excuse me |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
nope that was it we had the week up there (interruption) and Scotland in (interruption) April |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) oh in Scotland (interruption) do you do skiing (interruption) there did you |
Speaker 3: |
no we went up the s ski lift thing you know but we didn't have any skis so (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
oh that was worth it then (unclear) (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) there's good views at the top (interruption) with |
Speaker 2: |
take your black bags and slide down |
Speaker 3: |
watch the (laughter) watch the people going underneath you know the |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
quite (pause) good go up about (pause) a kilometre and a half like that |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
freezing cold and it's a bit scary but would have been better if we'd skied down but |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
how did you get down then |
Speaker 3: |
we turned round and got back down in the chair |
Speaker 2: |
is that what (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
mm goes up and round that (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
what is it like two seater chairs (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
just two chairs going up with your (pause) |
Speaker 2: |
so it was covered in snow |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
oh oh who was it that had got knocked over was it you when you went up skiing wasn't it and like the thing hit them and sent them down |
Speaker 3: |
in Italy |
Speaker 2: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 3: |
yeah (interruption) that was that was |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
what was that about five years ago (interruption) with the middle school |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah in childhood (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
yeah (pause) ehm (pause) eeh I can't remember what happened |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
well it would have been a big block of ice but it was just snow yeah me and (NAME) went up (pause) I think on that trip (interruption) (unclear) yeah |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
you see I wanted to but I went to La Rochelle with the school instead |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
that was a good laugh mind |
Speaker 3: |
what was that like good was it |
Speaker 2: |
oh (interruption) yeah |
Speaker 3: |
with (pause) Miss (NAME) |
Speaker 2: |
Miss (NAME) |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm that's right |
Speaker 2: |
it was certainly good oh but getting back to the skiing trip I heard a little rumour about someone in a cable car (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) yeah mm-hm well it was the first time I went up wasn't it the first (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
the first day we went up I (pause) I thought that it'd be all right we'd just get up and put the skis in the little (pause) holder thing on the outside when |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
that's eh (pause) (interruption) it was |
Speaker 2: |
and (NAME) was trying to jump out wasn't he |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
and (unclear) (interruption) over (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
it was stuck it was actually wasn't meant to happen like that and we were stuck for about ten minutes every day we was up and it stops for about twenty seconds so that people can get on if they want to but this stopped for about ten minutes |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
happened to me the first day that we were there like (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
how long did you go for eight eight days was it |
Speaker 3: |
eight days uh-huh it was good skiing |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
awful holiday but good skiing (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
it was awful awful |
Speaker 2: |
so which teachers would have went with you then |
Speaker 3: |
there was two eh (pause) eh Mr (NAME) |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
and (pause) (NAME) was it (NAME) (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
oh Mrs (NAME) |
Speaker 3: |
I think it was a (pause) we met her (pause) this year didn't we when we went back there |
Speaker 2: |
uh-huh it was good |
Speaker 3: |
so where |
Speaker 2: |
no (pause) I don't think we will be now I I think mam and dad want to go away for Christmas like try Christmas say in Tenerife or (interruption) Spain again |
Speaker 3: |
oh right uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
I said that I wouldn't fancy going away for Christmas Day they're on about leaving on Boxing Day |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
go out for a couple of weeks but my mam saw one in the (pause) news in the (pause) travel agents today for tomorrow leaving |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
so that would have been good (unclear) she's trying to get my dad talked into it |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
you know just for them to go away (unclear) it was their anniversary yesterday (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
when's this for not at Christmas this summer you mean |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
or at Christmas |
Speaker 2: |
this summer |
Speaker 3: |
summer yeah |
Speaker 2: |
it's for tomorrow |
Speaker 3: |
I wouldn't like to go away at Christmas some people do always go to a hotel for Christmas dinner and everything but |
Speaker 2: |
no I wouldn't |
Speaker 3: |
I'd rather have a (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
I like Christmas Day in the house |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
because they some family come up and (pause) celebrate with you |
Speaker 3: |
well (NAME)'s boss went to Australia for Christmas a couple of weeks ago his son lives out there and they're having (pause) turkey on the beach and everything (interruption) and ninety five degrees weird (unclear) (interruption) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) (unclear) (interruption) yeah I like the |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
I couldn't stand being out in the sun |
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 2: |
well I could stand it like but (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) I don't like sun that much I prefer snow |
Speaker 2: |
yeah I prefer snow at (interruption) Christmas time like |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
I'm looking at this clock I'm like (pause) hoping that my |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) (unclear) two forty was it or two ten |
Speaker 2: |
two ten |
Speaker 3: |
oh right yeah |
Speaker 2: |
so I'm hoping that like I'm fourteen pound richer now fifteen sorry (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) put the radio at three o'clock |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
before you go |
Speaker 2: |
I'll be praying when I get (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
my mam's watching that for me anyway on the telly if it's on |
Speaker 3: |
oh that's right mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
no (interruption) no |
Speaker 2: |
no it's good mind all the films you get and plus you like what is it Star Trek |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
yeah it's got all that on |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
have you seen the new series Babylon Five |
Speaker 3: |
well no I haven't i it's on Channel Four now isn't it |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
it looks a bit of a copy so |
Speaker 2: |
yeah that's what (NAME) said as well |
Speaker 3: |
it's bad quality I watched |
Speaker 2: |
aye (interruption) that's right |
Speaker 3: |
the s the you know you get good graphics on |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
Star Trek and that but (pause) it's just like little beepy things (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
I must admit I'm not very much into Star Trek and that like |
Speaker 3: |
oh it's quite good |
Speaker 2: |
not the |
Speaker 3: |
not the old one |
Speaker 2: |
no |
Speaker 3: |
that's pathetic but the new (laughter) the new one's all right |
Speaker 2: |
is the new one with the man with the (pause) bald head is it mm mm |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh that's it |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) you get (NAME) talking about him all day |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
and Doctor Who and |
Speaker 3: |
he was a (pause) Shakespeare actor or something |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
and mam went to see him before he went to (interruption) America |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah |
Speaker 3: |
Patrick Stewart up here |
Speaker 2: |
mm (pause) so you went to see a musical or something did you with your mum |
Speaker 3: |
sorry |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
no it was it's like a (pause) classical concert type of thing my (pause) mam's friend (NAME) she lives down there you know her you've seen her in the white car she goes round with (NAME) sometimes |
Speaker 2: |
I've seen (NAME) before |
Speaker 3: |
aye you she lives down at the bottom of Carl Street she's eh she comes here sometimes and she's in the (pause) |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
so she was taking part in this big concert for the first time so we all went and supported her and (pause) my mam had a coughing fit and |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
she went eh (pause) she went to Australia singing in this choir and she sang with Pavarotti in (pause) Sydney |
Speaker 2: |
oh that'd be good |
Speaker 3: |
master of choir I don't know how (laughter) for about |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) paid (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) not bad is it (interruption) I know |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) I want to be a choir (unclear) (laughter) (unclear) just we watched that Sister Act last night with that choir it was on Sky |
Speaker 3: |
Whoopi Goldberg |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) Whoopi Goldberg (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
I hate her |
Speaker 2: |
oh she's excellent I think |
Speaker 3: |
ugh (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
great personality |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
it would be amazing to meet someone like that |
Speaker 3: |
yeah it would actually yes |
Speaker 2: |
it's good that |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) I think she's a good actress |
Speaker 3: |
on about talking about Pavarotti on about that opera trip you didn't fancy going on that from school did you (interruption) on Friday |
Speaker 2: |
oh no |
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 2: |
couldn't really spare the time because we had to get wor portfolios in by then |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
so |
Speaker 3: |
leaving at what was it leaving about nine and getting back at four in the same morning |
Speaker 2: |
four in the morning |
Speaker 3: |
oh I couldn't stand that |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
mind you it was not bad because you got it all for a pound all your travel and the tickets |
Speaker 3: |
that was what was it (pause) just for the sake of it it was Midland Bank sponsored |
Speaker 2: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 3: |
wasn't it yeah |
Speaker 2: |
what was the show called again ehm |
Speaker 3: |
I don't know I'd never (interruption) heard of the opera |
Speaker 2: |
it was a strange name wasn't it |
Speaker 3: |
eh it wasn't a well known one it was Jose Carreras wasn't it that was in it |
Speaker 2: |
you said the English teachers didn't know anything |
Speaker 3: |
the music teachers |
Speaker 2: |
music teachers |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
oh mm |
Speaker 3: |
yeah I don't know what it was |
Speaker 2: |
I haven't heard about that one mind either |
Speaker 3: |
I haven't heard about anybody that's come back either was (NAME) on it |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
oh he's back then to have another crack |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
at it or something is he |
Speaker 2: |
couldn't stand the like six hour bus down |
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 2: |
and back |
Speaker 3: |
they had to sit on the floor when they got there as well |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
they took the seats |
Speaker 2: |
it would have been a good experience mind |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
to see the show |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
but again it's just the bus (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
if it had been staying overnight I might have gone but |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
would be good |
Speaker 3: |
like that Leeds trip we went to well I went to with my English class to see that play that was awful |
Speaker 2: |
was it |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
I remember you going |
Speaker 3: |
leaving at six o'clock at night and coming back the same night got back about two o'clock |
Speaker 2: |
in the afternoon was it or a morning |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) night |
Speaker 2: |
afternoon night |
Speaker 3: |
six o'clock at night we left to get back two o'clock two and a half hour show in between (unclear) screaming up and down to get back for the deadline oh |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) and you came back to school the next morning didn't you |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
I think I was the only one |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
said 'come back' and everybody else thought 'sod that' and I still went |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
oh what a mug |
Speaker 2: |
you should have tried to stay off (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
I know |
Speaker 2: |
I would have been flaked out (interruption) at two o'clock in the morning (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) mm-hm I was (interruption) I think the whole day was cancelled I just went home I can't remember |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
something like that |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
that's (unclear) your English teacher cancelled hers |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm that's right |
Speaker 2: |
Miss Vowels |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
what an appropriate name for English (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
I think it's (NAME) actually I've been calling her Vowels for all year she hasn't said anything so |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) (pause) so what lessons have you taken A level |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) ehm (pause) English Literature ehm oh God |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) yeah |
Speaker 3: |
History's the worst |
Speaker 2: |
who do you get Miss (NAME) isn't it |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh and (NAME) (pause) Mrs (NAME) |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
I got what did I get in those last exams I got (pause) Cs in (pause) English and French and N in History |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) (interruption) yeah but (unclear) that N (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
I'm not sure |
Speaker 2: |
that N for (pause) history did you say |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
that would have been what mark in GCSE? that would have been something like a C wouldn't it |
Speaker 3: |
D or something like that |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
it's a big step up to A level |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
but that I think N means none (pause) not (pause) not good (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
non non classified or something it goes A B C |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
it doesn't go right (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
it doesn't give you much |
Speaker 3: |
J K L it's not right that far down you know and then you get U under that is |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
rubbish (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
unclassified |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
I don't know what the difference between non classified and unclassified is but one's obviously better than the other |
Speaker 2: |
if the teacher likes you you see (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) Law (interruption) a GNVQ Law type of thing or a |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
oh right uh-huh probably be quite interesting |
Speaker 2: |
aye (pause) I don't know whether I could (pause) see it through though talking about Law every day |
Speaker 3: |
well I don't know |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
get well paid in Law |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm Travel and (pause) Touring is it |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) Tourism |
Speaker 3: |
sorry tourism yeah |
Speaker 2: |
or Travel and Management or whatever |
Speaker 3: |
what is that like do you get to travel or do you just learn about it (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
you get to go abroad like after the course well during the course you get to go abroad for about a month I think it is (interruption) I'm not too sure |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
and then after the course (pause) |
Speaker 3: |
mam lived there for a year |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) Connecticut |
Speaker 3: |
not Connecticut in America for a year it was eh (pause) Minneapolis or somewhere |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
or New York |
Speaker 2: |
I'm not sure whether I'd like to go to America now |
Speaker 3: |
not (interruption) now |
Speaker 2: |
not Florida (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
all right (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
lovely |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) give them my money and you think you're let off |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
bye |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) (pause) mm well (laughter) |
Speaker 1: |
what what does the GNVQ do what do you |
Speaker 2: |
it just (pause) different lessons that you wouldn't be allowed to take (pause) like when you're younger just business finance (pause) because they don't think you can understand it you see (pause) at school so it's business finance European business customers and consumers |
Speaker 1: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
it's different things like that |
Speaker 3: |
what's it equivalent to a year one A level or something is it or (pause) one (interruption) AS or something (interruption) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) one (interruption) one AS I think |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
or two AS (pause) I don't know I'm not quite sure |
Speaker 3: |
it's probably more useful than what I'm doing actually because I never I don't know a thing about business and you know (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
that's that's the thing with GNVQ you get like |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
thing like business and everything and European style |
Speaker 3: |
I get a wide (pause) how Napoleon's hairstyle went (interruption) and everything you know really useful stuff (interruption) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) (laughter) (interruption) yeah aye (pause) that's it |
Speaker 3: |
ehm (pause) |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 1: |
(unclear) what do you think you'd like to see yourself doing in five years' time |
Speaker 3: |
retiring (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) aye no eh winning the pools |
Speaker 3: |
five years time well if I went to university I'd only just be getting out in about five years' time |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
probably be (pause) head of a firm or something in five y you'd have been working for ages |
Speaker 2: |
aye I'd be I'd prefer to be working abroad |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
somewhere like Spain and that I wouldn't mind whether it was |
Speaker 3: |
that's right Mrs (NAME) said that like we could do a (pause) we would be in line for doing a travelling French course |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
sometime after this if we didn't want to go to university straight away we could take a year out and (pause) do a French |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
year thing working somewhere in France that'd be quite interesting |
Speaker 2: |
it'd be (pause) good to see how people like work (interruption) abroad |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
see if you can understand a word they're saying to you (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
just agree with them (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) 'you're sacked' 'yeah it's all right' |
Speaker 2: |
I could work for my dad's company actually (interruption) I (unclear) I could |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) mm-hm I (unclear) (unclear) (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
what has he got something like (unclear) has he got some link with Spain has he (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
yeah he's got his own business |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
I was led to believe it's it a nightclub but it's not it's not a like architect business but like they design all the pubs that are over there |
Speaker 3: |
oh aye |
Speaker 2: |
it's called Twenty Twenty so that's (pause) quite good |
Speaker 3: |
is that what he more or less what he does there is it like (interruption) interior design and that mm (interruption) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) yeah (interruption) it's just if anyone wants any work done they give it to like the company that's there |
Speaker 3: |
oh right |
Speaker 2: |
and then he gives the go ahead sends some plans down |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
and if they like it they go ahead (pause) (interruption) so it's just |
Speaker 3: |
are you getting a new car you are aren't you were you getting a new car sometime or what |
Speaker 2: |
oh well I'm not my mum is |
Speaker 3: |
yeah that's what I meant |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
she's getting the XR3i can't (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
she's helping me with the payments so that would be all right |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
don't think anyone would trust me though not in an XR3i |
Speaker 3: |
no (interruption) I wouldn't (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(NAME) wouldn't and (pause) you wouldn't |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
I would |
Speaker 3: |
aye (NAME) he's doing his driving test now as well isn't he |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm well |
Speaker 3: |
well he's learning yeah is he learning properly is he eh (pause) with a (interruption) driving school (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) instructor (interruption) yeah the only thing is he only gets one lesson (pause) he's chosen to get one lesson a week like Saturdays when other people are sort of getting like three nights a week |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
I don't think I could like (pause) learn to drive on Saturday because by the time next Saturday comes I've probably forgot all about it |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm yeah |
Speaker 2: |
it's strange |
Speaker 3: |
did you |
Speaker 2: |
he f (pause) going too fast wasn't he |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) he did everything perfectly and then he gets to the end and there was a thirty mile an hour limit there and back to the driving school and he went about sixty down this road and they failed him stupid or what |
Speaker 2: |
right he's failed (pause) how many times three now isn't it |
Speaker 3: |
no what was it three or maybe two |
Speaker 2: |
must be (unclear) he's blaming that big car though isn't he |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
I wouldn't like to learn in a big car |
Speaker 3: |
he must be quite good because he didn't get any minor points (interruption) you know apart from that |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
he must be good |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
it's annoying when you go to that school and all these people from Darras Hall come rolling in with sixteen in |
Speaker 2: |
aye and their Mercs (unclear) goes like that (unclear) you know (unclear) I'll be driving in a little Betsy you know (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
yeah (laughter) pushing (unclear) winding the handle (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
parking next to the mercs and the BMs you know 'oh hi' |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) I don't care what my car is as long as it gets me there |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm yeah |
Speaker 2: |
do you not think you'll get a car |
Speaker 3: |
oh I don't think so |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) just that'll be a big car (unclear) (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) (unclear) I wouldn't have that much need (interruption) I don't think it's worth getting a car just for driving up to the school really |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
myself like if I had brother or sisters and make it (pause) go halfers with them |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
she could take it to |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) prices of them as well it's ridiculous what they're asking for second hand cars as well it's really strange |
Speaker 3: |
I know yeah how long would you live at home then (pause) |
Speaker 2: |
as long as I could (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) sponging |
Speaker 2: |
yeah that's right no I pay board but (pause) I like it at home it's a nice atmosphere |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
it's good (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
it's another thing if you went to university you have to move away (interruption) I don't know whether I would mind that or not (interruption) |
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) that's right (interruption) you would have to live in there wouldn't it in your (pause) dorms |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
yeah be a good experience mind if you did |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
share with new people getting to know other people |
Speaker 3: |
I would but I don't know whether it's worth it you know (interruption) as I was saying |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
I'll see |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
plenty of time yet trying to convince |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) what's your mam and dad want you to do |
Speaker 3: |
oh they'd like us to go to university really I think |
Speaker 2: |
mm aye they want is that they want you like get rid of you |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) Bristol or somewhere (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
down south |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) Calais (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
Devon or somewhere (laughter) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
I |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
see our (NAME) wants to stay on (pause) like at school but mam and dad don't want him to but like he says 'well it's up to me it's my education' (interruption) so he wants to go there (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) yeah (interruption) mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
yeah (pause) don't know |
Speaker 3: |
you (pause) change your mind right up to the last minute though can't you |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
what you want to do |
Speaker 2: |
no |
Speaker 3: |
this year (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
yes |
Speaker 2: |
I was I tried to get into college I put in for the wrong course so then like I had to talk to the tutors at the at the college so I just had to go to thing eh school (pause) so (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) or draw the dole that was the choice was it |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
and it was really just an in introduction to what the course was |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
getting (pause) used to all the works your files and things like that good |
Speaker 3: |
would you recommend this course to anybody else (interruption) now that you did it |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah |
Speaker 3: |
you would would you |
Speaker 2: |
yeah it's good apart from the |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) you haven't |
Speaker 2: |
no not yet (laughter) it's the only thing is it's I don't think it should just be a year I think (interruption) it should be like longer (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) no (interruption) yeah |
Speaker 2: |
about (interruption) two year |
Speaker 3: |
about six or something (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
yeah just we were really pushed towards the end to get all the work in |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
and not everyone has yet I mean I haven't got all the work in but we've got until (pause) three weeks now she give we an extended |
Speaker 3: |
but you're working in that time though |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
so I'm going to have to work during the day and do it at night |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
it's hard for us because I've only got the one computer and both of we want to use it (interruption) so |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm yeah |
Speaker 2: |
it's going to be hard |
Speaker 3: |
do you think you'll pass then do you in the end |
Speaker 2: |
I think I'll (interruption) pass |
Speaker 3: |
do you pass and fail or is it like |
Speaker 2: |
eh eh distinction merit pass fail |
Speaker 3: |
oh right |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 2: |
it's (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
it's a it's a new course isn't it are you the first |
Speaker 2: |
we're (interruption) the first year |
Speaker 3: |
are you the guinea pigs |
Speaker 2: |
we're the guinea pigs that's right (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
Miss (NAME) says it's totally different to CPVE |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
any four letters that you haven't used before |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) yeah (laughter) (pause) that's a new one (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
then find something that fits in with it |
Speaker 2: |
yeah (laughter) |
Speaker 1: |
|
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 1: |
how many in the sixth form (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
more and more isn't it |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
it's getting bigger |
Speaker 2: |
that's it |
Speaker 3: |
more people from around here are going anyway |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah they found more people didn't they they (pause) how do you say like overbooked |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
oh no that's the whole school wasn't it they took too many people in |
Speaker 3: |
yeah well when we first went from here we were (pause) pretty kind of freaks going from here (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
yeah there was about five (interruption) there wasn't there |
Speaker 3: |
it was about eight or (unclear) seven or eight yeah now there's about |
Speaker 2: |
oh there's a lot |
Speaker 3: |
thirty or forty (interruption) going (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
there's loads yeah (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
it's spoiling it actually these common areas like this |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
it is |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
because we all got told that it was really hard 'it's really good though for you students' but (pause) since we've been there it's just gone down and down it's getting like (unclear) of drugs and things like this (pause) which you don't see much of anyway not there |
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) the really nice ones like Mr (NAME) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
really nice isn't he (pause) yeah (pause) really pleasant he's the one that does the football isn't he |
Speaker 3: |
huh (unclear) (unclear) do you listen to him have you never have you never heard him when (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
oh (unclear) I've heard him before mind but |
Speaker 3: |
I think he's quite good |
Speaker 2: |
a bit overexcited |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
you can't imagine Mr (NAME) being like that when you see him at school |
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 2: |
no |
Speaker 3: |
he's pretty strict there |
Speaker 2: |
oh aye (pause) he is |
Speaker 3: |
the new people (pause) getting eh interviewed last week to take over did you see all the |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah |
Speaker 3: |
four women |
Speaker 2: |
aye that's right it's going to be a woman |
Speaker 3: |
all from outside as well I think |
Speaker 2: |
are they |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
mm (pause) it's like because the one that they most like Miss (NAME) told we who it was the women it was that woman with the blonde hair that came over when we were in the thing we saw her she looked pleasant (interruption) enough |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm all the teachers all the women teachers are saying 'oh we need a woman' they all demanded a woman because you know at the top there's (pause) male head |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
and then they've had |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
heads of eh |
Speaker 2: |
in charge of departments |
Speaker 3: |
department uh-huh |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
male orientated (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
if you get someone good it'll be (pause) fair and if you get someone bad it'll be terrible and they'll criticize them (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
never mind (pause) |
Speaker 1: |
how long have you two known each other then |
Speaker 3: |
oh too long (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) (pause) (interruption) eight years |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) you didn't go to my first school did you |
Speaker 2: |
no |
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 2: |
I went to Linhope |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
Linhope first school next to Denton Park |
Speaker 3: |
oh aye |
Speaker 2: |
you know |
Speaker 3: |
I went over there at |
Speaker 2: |
that one just there |
Speaker 3: |
just there |
Speaker 2: |
right |
Speaker 3: |
that was probably the best school I've ever been to |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) I got As all the way through my little school |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) (interruption) eh |
Speaker 3: |
and then we went down there to Chapel Park |
Speaker 2: |
but I didn't join (interruption) that until the second year |
Speaker 3: |
you (unclear) you were there in the second year yeah |
Speaker 2: |
aye so I've known you for how long now two |
Speaker 3: |
two three four three (interruption) four five |
Speaker 2: |
seven |
Speaker 3: |
|
Speaker 2: |
(interruption) seventh year |
Speaker 3: |
since the seventh year that was when I started wearing glasses that's must be seven years that I've been wearing glasses |
Speaker 2: |
it's I brought you bad luck then (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
yes it was a good year that (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) I remember when I first came in the class with (NAME) (NAME) and them |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
mm and (unclear) (NAME) |
Speaker 3: |
yes |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) the devil |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) is she still there |
Speaker 2: |
she is yeah |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) crazy |
Speaker 2: |
her daughter's supposed to be in our (unclear) high school isn't she |
Speaker 3: |
is she |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm because last on a couple of years back she came up with her daughter because she whistled in my ear again |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
she used to grab you didn't she |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) yeah |
Speaker 2: |
and just take you everywhere |
Speaker 3: |
yes |
Speaker 2: |
'oh thank you' (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
this was one of the dinner ladies (laughter) not a kid by the way |
Speaker 1: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
it was not a bad place though that really was it Chapel Park (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
yeah wasn't good either |
Speaker 2: |
mm it wasn't as strict as I thought again |
Speaker 3: |
no it wasn't mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
but (unclear) I don't mind (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
we did so little work we used to think that it was hard at the time but when you look back we did nothing really did we |
Speaker 2: |
oh yes |
Speaker 3: |
quite funny really |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm (pause) yeah |
Speaker 2: |
eventually when you got to know Mrs (NAME) as well she was nice |
Speaker 3: |
yes |
Speaker 2: |
towards the end but we had Miss (NAME) as a stand in teacher |
Speaker 3: |
she was all right |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh named her kid after you didn't she |
Speaker 2: |
aye (NAME) (laughter) 'if she grows up as nice looking as you I'll be |
Speaker 3: |
you not me |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
yes that was nice |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) I think she was just about to resign then and there I don't know what the hell you had to |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) oh no it was only fun |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) so it was |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
it was (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
you make me sound like a little devil |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
we were friends anyway weren't we |
Speaker 3: |
oh yeah mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
I think she ended up |
Speaker 2: |
uh-huh |
Speaker 3: |
and somebody told me that she was teaching at Ponteland |
Speaker 2: |
did they |
Speaker 3: |
mm |
Speaker 2: |
oh |
Speaker 3: |
before I left when she went someone said 'oh she's off to Ponteland' but I think she might have gone to one of those Coates |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
Coates Middle School (interruption) or something like that |
Speaker 2: |
I've seen her once since then she's still exactly the same |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
and then I remember Mr (NAME) (NAME) (NAME) (interruption) (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
mm he was good |
Speaker 2: |
he was (interruption) good |
Speaker 3: |
I |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) he wasn't good he was awful but I liked him he couldn't teach to save his life (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
I remember he gave us E for art (interruption) or something |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
five and my mam and dad went down 'oh sorry I got him wrong with (NAME) (NAME)' (laughter) said 'oh great I don't look anything like him' |
Speaker 3: |
he was an old army man wasn't he |
Speaker 2: |
yeah that's right with his hair (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
used to tell us stories about how he shot Koreans (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) yeah |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) the RE he took RE didn't he |
Speaker 3: |
yes he did |
Speaker 2: |
RE art (pause) he d (interruption) he went up to west |
Speaker 3: |
not much connection really is there |
Speaker 2: |
he went up to West Denton High after that (interruption) I think |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
he did maths (pause) |
Speaker 3: |
I suppose that we should conclude that Ponteland's the best school |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
compared to the others yeah |
Speaker 2: |
yeah (unclear) (pause) I'd still prefer being at Ponteland than West Denton (interruption) and such |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm yeah |
Speaker 2: |
mm (unclear) people (unclear) (pause) mm |
Speaker 1: |
|
Speaker 3: |
mostly do you think and then Ponteland then |
Speaker 2: |
yeah that's right |
Speaker 3: |
Walbottle's not |
Speaker 2: |
Walbottle's getting |
Speaker 3: |
popular any more |
Speaker 2: |
no |
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) there's rumours about that closing wasn't there or was it West Denton closing |
Speaker 3: |
they were going to merge at one point |
Speaker 2: |
it was either they were going to close West Denton down and then merge (interruption) or take the pupils to there (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) (unclear) (interruption) I think so (interruption) and then eh |
Speaker 2: |
because there's rumours that we were going to get a lot more pupils |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
at our school |
Speaker 3: |
just what we needed |
Speaker 2: |
yeah |
Speaker 3: |
I don't know whether that's happening now is it |
Speaker 2: |
no don't think so unless they do it for next year which I don't think they will anyway because they had a campaign for it didn't they |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm there was some leaflet came through |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
saying oh dear (unclear) (unclear) here save our school or something |
Speaker 2: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 3: |
but the more people that go to ours the more buses we're going to need |
Speaker 2: |
mm (interruption) that's right |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) in the car like |
Speaker 2: |
aye it's (interruption) ridiculous the prices though |
Speaker 3: |
you get (pause) crammed in them buses sixty quid a term |
Speaker 2: |
mm I mean that would cost a hundred and twenty pound for us then cheaper (unclear) to go by car (interruption) (unclear) (unclear) (unclear) the petrol |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 1: |
|
Speaker 3: |
we get a double decker (pause) laid on well not laid on we pay for it we get it (interruption) we lay it on ours |
Speaker 1: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
sixty pounds a term (pause) per head and he's got a twin brother (NAME) we keep talking about him you know |
Speaker 1: |
right (interruption) so it's |
Speaker 3: |
people like that a hundred and twenty quid (unclear) (interruption) it's steep |
Speaker 2: |
it's far too much that (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
and it's a rotten |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
in the winter they just decide they don't want to come and all kind (interruption) (unclear) you're standing there till ten o'clock and |
Speaker 2: |
you're standing there |
Speaker 3: |
it's about they're about fifteen years old now I think the buses |
Speaker 2: |
(unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
N reg or something they just pack up going up a hill and stuff like that and they roll back (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) aye (interruption) (unclear) long (pause) steep hill (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
it's pathetic really |
Speaker 1: |
is there no other way of getting there you know without having a bus |
Speaker 3: |
well you'd have to get a public bus into town and then another one out |
Speaker 2: |
aye |
Speaker 3: |
right out to (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 1: |
or the Metro |
Speaker 3: |
no |
Speaker 1: |
can you go out to |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) there's one there |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah it goes (interruption) out to the airport but it'll take you |
Speaker 1: |
airport |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) you'd have to go in (pause) you can't get one from round here can you you'd (interruption) have to (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
you can get one from down in (pause) thingy eh what's it called |
Speaker 3: |
Newbiggin Hall |
Speaker 2: |
no |
Speaker 3: |
Kenton |
Speaker 2: |
Kenton Bank Foot station that wouldn't (interruption) take that long to (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
it's a fair way though isn't it |
Speaker 2: |
take about (interruption) half an hour |
Speaker 3: |
by the time you'd walked down (pause) biked down there and then you get on the Metro |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
it'd take hours the |
Speaker 2: |
take about half an hour to get down to Kenton then about another half an hour from the airport |
Speaker 3: |
have to get up about three o'clock |
Speaker 2: |
mm (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
but eh |
Speaker 2: |
my dad doesn't mind me take like taking us in (unclear) because |
Speaker 3: |
you've always just (unclear) the (pause) car haven't you |
Speaker 2: |
aye |
Speaker 3: |
so has he got (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
it's handy for my dad anyway he doesn't mind it's not that far out of his way |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
his business is just round there anyway |
Speaker 3: |
we used to have a better bus of course run by much better people (laughter) us (laughter) eh my mother (interruption) used to |
Speaker 2: |
oh yeah (unclear) your mum |
Speaker 3: |
uh-huh organized that (unclear) |
Speaker 2: |
|
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm well she organized it really but (pause) my mam typed the letters and things for her (pause) being such an expert in that matter (laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
and eh (pause) it was cheaper then actually |
Speaker 2: |
mm |
Speaker 3: |
now there's s (pause) two double deckers going |
Speaker 2: |
that's right (interruption) (unclear) (unclear) (interruption) |
Speaker 3: |
(interruption) next year there'll be three (interruption) should go |
Speaker 2: |
make more (interruption) aye |
Speaker 3: |
(unclear) to get more |
Speaker 2: |
there was forty pound when they first started it wasn't it |
Speaker 3: |
mm crept up to about fifty and then we got on this now it's sixty |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) it goes up and up (interruption) (unclear) |
Speaker 3: |
that's probably (unclear) we that's why there aren't many go to university you see |
Speaker 2: |
aye |
Speaker 3: |
to get off the bus |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) you should get your car now |
Speaker 3: |
mm-hm |
Speaker 2: |
yeah (pause) your mam'll be coming in soon |
Speaker 3: |
yeah |
Speaker 2: |
has she been down (NAME)'s (laughter) |
Speaker 3: |
(laughter) get licked licked to death by the dog (unclear) she's got another dog round (interruption) there at the minute |
Speaker 2: |
has she |
Speaker 3: |
not hers |
Speaker 2: |
oh is it the like your dog isn't it |
Speaker 3: |

Speaker 2: |

Speaker 3: |

Speaker 2: |

Speaker 3: |
(laughter) |
Speaker 2: |
(laughter) it's like (pause) is she your mam's sister |
Speaker 3: |
no uh uh no everyone thinks she is but (pause) they've known each other since they were about four so |
Speaker 2: |
oh right so it's not your (interruption) sister |
Speaker 3: |
I called her auntie when I was little |
Speaker 2: |
it's like I do with my (pause) like (pause) auntie (NAME) but she's not |
Speaker 3: |

Using the Interview Interface
- On the left-hand side of the page are the audio player panel [1] and the interview transcript panel [2]. To scroll through the text, use the scroll bar on the right-hand side of the transcript panel.
- The speaker panels on the right [3] provide background details for the interview participants. The colour of the panel corresponds to the colour of that speaker's utterances in the transcript.
- The audio and transcript text are linked in 20 second segments. Click anywhere in the transcript to start playback from that 20 second segment (the audio may take a few moments to buffer).
- Alternatively, you can click the play button (>) in the audio panel to start the interview from the beginning and then click on the audio time-line to jump to that part of the recording and transcription.
- You can also fast forward (>>) and rewind (<<) the audio. It will jump 20 seconds with each click of the buttons.
- Select a theme from the panel on the right-hand side of the page [4] to highlight related key words in the transcript. The transcript will jump to the first relevant key word in the text. Scroll down through the transcript to see further highlighted words.
- Note 1: To preserve anonymity, personal names have been removed. They are replaced by "(NAME)" in the text, and silence in the audio. For the same reason, some references to places have also been removed, replaced by "(PLACE)" in the text.
- Note 2: Obscenities are blanked out in the text, and the 20 second segment of audio that contains them will not play. If the audio stops for this reason, click the fast forward button (>>) to resume playback with the next 20 second segment of audio.
