Methods of Memory

Having focused upon the way we talk about memory in our respective disciplines during our 'Languages of Memory' workshop, on this occasion we looked to move on to considering the methodologies we apply to memory work. The workshop included short talks looking at human-computer interaction, collaboration between film and heritage research, arts interventions in dementia care, and futurescaping and design practice.

We were delighted to have presentations from:

  • Kellie Morrissey - Research fellow, Open Lab (since moved to a position in the School of Design at the University of Limerick)
  • Matt Perry - Reader in Labour History, School of History, Classics and Archaeology
  • Susannah Eckersley - Senior Lecturer in Media, Culture, Heritage
  • Ian McDonald - Director, Research Centre for Film
  • Andrew Newman - Professor of Cultural Gerontology
  • Areti Galani - Senior Lecturer in Media, Culture, Heritage

As part of the event participants were asked to respond to the talks by brainstorming ideas for collaborative research projects with external partner organisations in Newcastle. Below are some of the ideas that came from this session.
