CTRL Workshop: March/April 2026

  • Venue: Newcastle Law School (21-24 Windsor Terrace, Newcastle University)
  • Start: Mon, 23 Mar 2026 18:07:00 GMT
  • End: Tue, 21 Apr 2026 18:07:00 BST

"How do I know if I might have impact?"

It's a common question from academics, especially those early in their careers. Our focus throughout doctoral training and beyond is on doing academic work and publishing it; the idea of it affecting those outside of the academy is not the driving focus of most projects, and so many scholars enter academia with no real experience of engaging with non-academic audiences.

CTRL is organising this workshop for Law ECRs to explore how their work may result in engagement and impact - even if they have never conceived of this themselves.  Our 'volunteers' (our research mentees) will form part of a roundtable where they discuss what it is they are working on, and the CTRL team probes this for possible avenues towards impact and engagement, based on our own experiences with generating both.

All are welcome to attend - we very much welcome audience input on our academics' work and how it might 'translate' to non-academic settings, and perhaps you will come away from it with ideas about how your own work could 'translate' into impact and/or engagement as well.

Date, time and location to be confirmed; the event will be held close to or over the Newcastle University 'Easter' period.
