Kevin Thomas

I am a PhD researcher at Newcastle University, supported by the Newcastle University Overseas Research Scholarship (NUORS). My research investigates the neural circuits underlying auditory working memory and contextualisation within the frontotemporal network of non-human primates. By examining these circuits, my work aims to deepen understanding of conditions such as schizophrenia and dementia and support the development of future non-invasive therapeutic approaches.
Before beginning my PhD, I studied the neural circuits and behaviours involved in rodent olfaction at IISER-Pune, India. Following  which, I pursued an MRes in Neuroscience at Newcastle University, where I conducted in vitro electrophysiology experiments on mouse brain slices, examining how neuronal activity differs in response to specific orientations of an externally applied electric field. My overarching research interest is to advance our understanding of the neural circuits underlying healthy brain function and neurological disease, with the broader aim of contributing to translational neuroscience and the development of improved therapeutic approaches.
