BBSRC-NSF/BIO lead agency grant from January 2025

The lab will be supported by a four-year BBSRC-NSF/BIO Lead Agency US-UK partnership grant (£1.82M) from January 2025, "Neuronal Circuits and Mechanisms for Auditory Memory and Prediction".

The research bridges work with an indispensable animal model system that can directly inform studies with neurosurgery patients at the University of Iowa, providing important insights into neuronal mechanisms for auditory prediction and memory using laminar electrophysiology. This work will be based at Newcastle University, UK (Faculty of Medical Sciences).

A postdoctoral position is available at the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University. The research will involve cutting-edge laminar electrophysiology of prefrontal, auditory and hippocampal circuits in a primate model. Candidates for this position should have a strong academic record, relevant experience, empirical and analytical skills, as well as strong presentation and communication skills.

The research as part of this international partnership at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic is relevant for advancing auditory neuroscience and improving diagnostic and treatment options for neurological and neurosurgical patients, including individuals with amnesia, epilepsy, autism spectrum disorder and communication disorders.

Financial support is available for 3 years. The successful applicant has the opportunity to receive training in state-of-the-art neurobiological technology and support with career development in a collegial environment located in parts of the world with a high-quality research environment.

Duration: One position with funding for up to 3 years

Closing date: Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Strong completing PhD students can also be considered.

How to Apply: Please submit a cover letter, CV and the contact information of at least three individuals who can provide professional references. The cover letter should state how your interests and experience relate to the position.
