The Employment Research Centre is a research group in the Department of Sociology, Trinity College Dublin. It is directed by James Wickham, Jean Monnet Professor of European Labour Market Studies. The ERC carries out scholarly and policy relevant research on work, employment and the labour market in Ireland and Europe.
The contemporary Irish experience is of recent economic success based on high technology industry and services, a supportive educational system and a framework of social partnership. Our concerns grow out of this situation:
The Centre carries out its main work through funded research projects usually lasting several years and aims to continually interact with policy makers and other relevant actors during the course of the research. The ERC also carries out short term contract research and consultancy. Special areas are equal opportunities and labour market analysis. ERC activities include a newsletter, a regular seminar programme and research symposia. In addition, the web-based Labour Market Observatory publishes occasional reports on newsworthy developments in the Irish and in particular the Dublin labour market. These reports are used in particular by the Irish media and can be accessed through the ERC homepage.
