My PhD aims to develop and apply new statistical models for extreme values to understand and quantify the deficiencies of climate models in simulating convective extreme rainfall events. This will involve modelling the relationships between characteristics of extreme rainfall events, the physical processes driving these events, and components of numerical models such as their resolution and parameterisation schemes. The project, funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is part of the CONVEX project.
