A Walk up the Hill
in Six different Countries
|
60 mins - 2002 |
|
A Walk up the Hill
in Six different Countries is a sort of immersive video game pan through
the landscapes of the Australian bush, breathlessly narrated by descriptions
of the imaginary topologies of the Isle of Dionysis, Shangri-La, Narnia,
and Utopia. Virtual landscapes that have been drawn from the experience
of landscapes and which in turn shape and narrate our own understandings
of the world. Here, they are the imported stories that have overlaid and
erased the previous narratives that spoke the land in ways that we can
now never know.

Rosalind Brodsky's
Time Travelling Cookery TV Show *
|
Episode 1. 7 mins |
|
In episode one of
the cookery show Brodsky makes a dish of cherry and chocolate Polish pierogi
from the disassembled ingredients of a German Black Forest cake, a symbolic
translation of a German into a Polish dessert, which she originally invented
to take on a time travelling trip to try and rescue her Polish Jewish
grandparents from the Holocaust.

Rosalind Brodsky and
the Satellites of Lvov- Spy in the House of Lvov *
|
Pop Video 1. 7 mins |
|
The footage for Spy
in the House of Lvov was shot in Lvov, Ukraine, near to my/Brodsky's father's
birthplace and in Soho, London stalking Brodsky on a vibrators marketing
trip. Spy in the House of Lvov is a song about Brodsky's range of feature
vibrators and her complex relationship to them.

The year is 1998.
The ghost of Sigmund Freud materialises in his last home in North London
for a final meeting with the ghost of his daughter, Anna. He has a confession
to make which will alter the course of psychoanalytic history.
Freud and Anna are acted by my/Brodsky's parents in Freud's study at the
Freud Museum, London. Part two of the video consists of my parents sitting
in their office, an electronics import/export company in London, reading
their parts.

Sightings U.K.
|
60 mins |
|
'SIGHTINGS UK' and
'SIGHTINGS AUSTRALIA' are documentary style videos featuring a range of
people relating their encounters and often their time travelling experiences
with Rosalind Brodsky.
The brief given to each participant was to relate an incident from a time
and place in their own life during which they would be most likely to
encounter Brodsky. (Each participant was familiar with the project so
they all had a sense of where and when RB would be likely to turn up.)
It is then up to each participant to relate how they came to actually
meet RB, what ensued and a description of a time travelling experience
if it eventuated.
The resulting stories
relate to historical events, music, alchemy, psychoanalysis, art, religion,
politics, conspiracy theories and the everyday.
Participants not in
order of appearance in Sightings UK are: 1.Susan Hiller - Artist. 2. Marek
Kohn - Author of books on race theory and columnist for The Independent
newspaper. 3. Andrew Renton - Writer/curator. 4. Teo - 5 year old child.
5. Yuko Shiraishi - Artist. 6. Garry Grayson - Astrologer, analyst, ex-schoolteacher.
