Lydia Dan Wu 吴丹

Dr Lydia Dan Wu is research associate for a major AHRC-funded project entitled Independent Cinema in China from 1990-2017: State, Market and Film Culture. She did two research degrees in film studies and obtained her doctoral degree in film studies from Newcastle University in 2017. Her research interests include circulation of Chinese independent films in the PRC and beyond, film exhibition culture and film festivals with an East Asian focus. Her doctoral thesis examines sustainability and legitimation of Chinese independent film festivals, which existed from early 2000s to 2016 to showcase and promote Chinese independent films. She has regularly curated film exhibition events since 2012.
