New paper on Cdk1-Cyclin B1 regulation in meiosis

Aneuploidy in Oocytes Is Prevented by Sustained CDK1 Activity through Degron Masking in Cyclin B1

Suzanne Madgwick's paper in Dev. Cell, together with Mark Levasseur and Chris Thomas is out! The work shows that, in mouse oocytes, an excess of cyclin B1 acts to preserves CDK1 activity in meiosis IA motif in non-CDK1-bound cyclin B1 confers preferential APC/C targeting, so that non-CDK1-bound cyclin B1 is gradually destroyed before CDK1-bound cyclin B1. This prolongs the activity of CDK1 to assist the spindle checkpoint and prevent aneuploidy.
