The British Regional Heart Study is a long-term study of older men (aged 78–98) investigating heart disease, dementia, and other common health conditions. Our goal is to understand how lifestyle, social, and biological factors affect health in later life, so we can help prevent chronic diseases and reduce the burden on health and social care.

We have linked your study data with national hospital records (HES Data), mental health data focused on dementia, and diagnostic imaging data (e.g., MRI scans). This helps us understand how conditions such as dementia, heart failure, and stroke develop and progress.

The study has now finished its active data collection, and all direct identifiers (such as names and GP contact details) have been deleted. The anonymised dataset has been deposited at the UK Data Service, which ensures that data collections are preserved in perpetuity to support future research and enable reproducibility across decades.
