Data Sharing
BRHS as a data resource
The BRHS research team is committed to maximizing the use of the BRHS data to advance scientific knowledge. Data collected since 1978 are now available as an open-access resource to facilitate research in the wider scientific community, either in collaboration with the BRHS research team or independently via UK Data Service (UKDS).
Accessing Data via UK Data Service
To access data from the UK Data Service (UKDS), you'll first need to register for an account on their website https://ukdataservice.ac.uk. Once registered, you can locate the specific datasets you need within their data catalogue. Depending on the dataset's access level (Open, Safeguarded, or Controlled), you may need to complete additional steps like accepting an End User Licence, registering for a Secure Access account, or even applying for access through the SecureLab.
Collaborative Research
Use of BRHS data aims to generate high-quality research evidence to improve the prevention of chronic diseases and enhance the health of older populations. The BRHS team welcomes proposals for collaborative projects. Interested collaborators should contact the Study Directors - Professor Goya Wannamethee g.wannamethee@ucl.ac.uk, or Professor Sheena Ramsay sheena.ramsay@ncl.ac.uk in advance to discuss proposals.
Bio Resource- Restricted access to samples (bio-resources)
The BRHS holds small volumes of plasma and serum collected at the 20, 30, and 40 year examinations, stored in secure, alarmed facilities.
Access principles are similar to those for BRHS data, but due to the finite nature of samples:
- Requests require scientific justification.
- Review is conducted by study custodians.
- Priority is given to collaborations using large numbers of samples with high-throughput, cost-effective assays.
