About
The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)'s Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011 – 2020 and the 20 associated Aichi Biodiversity targets will come to an end shortly. The aim of the IUCN Species Survival Commission’s Post-2020 Biodiversity Task Force is to increase the input of scientific information on species from the Species Survival Commission into global discussions on the post-2020 biodiversity agenda. We aim to work towards any new or revised conservation targets relating to species under the CBD and associated Protocols and Multilateral Environmental Agreements, that are ambitious while achievable, practical and helpful in terms of implementation of the overall goals of the CBD.
We focus particularly on Aichi target 12: "By 2020 the extinction of known threatened species has been prevented and their conservation status, particularly of those most in decline, has been improved and sustained."
