British Conference of Undergraduate Research
This website is for Newcastle University students who would like to apply for an internal scholarship to attend BCUR events.
The British Conference of Undergraduate Research is the biggest conference in the UK dedicated to celebrating undergraduate research. Anyone who’s done a dissertation, a research project, an internship, or simply an interesting end-of-term essay, can give a talk or present a poster about their work. All subjects are represented—it’s a great opportunity for students to share their work with attendees from a wide range of universities, and great fun too!
Newcastle has been involved since 2015, and there is University sponsorship for students to attend the conference to present the best projects. We will pay for attendance, travel and accommodation. Find out more about the conference and the Newcastle University scholarship competition on the BCUR events pages.
The 2020 conference was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which also resulted in the first virtual BCUR, hosted by the University of Leeds in 2021, and you can visit their website for more information.
The in-person conference returned in 2023, hosted by the University of Warwick, running alongside the World Congress of Undergraduate Research (WorldCUR). Details of both conferences can be found on the Univeristy of Warwick website.
You can also find examples of research Newcastle University students have presented at previous events on our Student Research pages.
We also participate in the Posters in Parliament event, where up to 2 Newcastle University students present a poster and share their research with their peers, members of the House of Lords and MPs. You can find out more about the event on our Posters in Parliament pages.
