Professor Avan Aihie Sayer

Avan Aihie Sayer is William Leech Professor of Geriatric Medicine at Newcastle University, Director of the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre and Honorary Consultant Geriatrician at Newcastle Hospitals. She is an NIHR Senior Investigator and leads an internationally recognised programme of translational ageing research in Geriatrics and Gerontology with a particular focus on sarcopenia and multiple long-term conditions.  Avan champions team science and sustainable capacity building in ageing experimental medicine with a track record of developing innovative interdisciplinary gerontology research.
