ISTRC 2023 prize winners

International Sarcopenia Translational Research Conference (ISTRC) – 4 & 5 October 2023

At ISTRC 2023, prizes were awarded for best poster and best oral abstract. 42 posters were displayed over days one and two and delegates were able to vote for their favourite via online voting. Out of the 9 oral presentations, the best oral abstract was decided by our organising committee.

Two out of the three prize winners were recipients of funding from the ART of Healthy Ageing Network to attend the conference.

Poster day 1:

Giulia Raffaele, Medical student, King's College London 

Validation of Remotely Measured Physical Performance Measures in Older Adults

Giulia commented “I am thrilled to share that I was honoured with the Best Poster Prize at the conference, which serves as a testament to the positive impact of my research. This recognition not only bolsters my confidence but also motivates me to continue pushing the boundaries of knowledge in the field of healthy ageing.”
 
She also commented "I would like to express my deep gratitude to the ART of Healthy Ageing Network for providing me with the opportunity to attend this conference through their award program. Their commitment to fostering inclusivity and removing barriers within the academic and research community is commendable. Poster day 2:

Marie Korzepa, PhD Student, University of Birmingham

Age-related differences in the translocation of anabolic signalling intermediates in human skeletal muscle fibres following exercise and protein feeding

Oral abstract:

Dr Eleanor Jones, Postdoctoral Researcher, University of Nottingham

Chronic oral administration of the mTOR inhibitor rapamycin to older people, is safe and does not limit resistance exercise-induced muscle strength gains

Eleanor commented that the conference “has allowed me to form new connections, gain career tips and exchange ideas with people in the field to improve my work.”
