Metrology is the science of measurement and includes all theoretical and practical aspects of measurement.

The Advanced Metrology Laboratory is hosted at Newcastle and brings together the existing metrology capability at the University.

The following laboratories are part of AML:

• National Gear Metrology Laboratory which measures gears and related products‌
• National EPSRC XPS Service (NEXUS) for probing the composition and electronic structure of surfaces
• MSE MEMS Measurement and Characterisation Laboratory specialising in microelectromechanical systems
