Helen Thomas completed a music degree at the University of York, then spent ten years working as a music publisher for Oxford University Press. A move to the North West and a career break to look after her two sons (now 13 and 15) was combined with study for the City & Guilds Adult Education Teaching Certificate and then work in the Adult Education sector developing music classes in a variety of community settings.
She decided to go back to college in 2005 to study for an MA in Music since 1900 at Liverpool Hope University and this led to a PhD at Lancaster University on how and why composers talk about their music. Helen is an oboist and cor anglais player and enjoys performing with local chamber groups, orchestras and bands.
