Higher Education Funding Council for England Benefits-led IT at Newcastle
n. a project funded by HEFCE’s LGM Fund

Introduction

A benefits driven approach to IT-enabled transformation in Higher Education.

Benefits-led IT at Newcastle University.

This programme is primarily for and about the many people who play a key role in leading IT–enabled change in HEIs. We will produce practical resources to help individuals and organisations as they seek to develop their transformation capability and realise benefits from investments in IT.

The resources will include a management ‘toolkit’ for IT-enabled transformation, case studies and a web site. The project draws on existing good practices and focuses on testing out a practical, workshop-based process for enabling individuals and teams to use the tools to make a difference.

The Newcastle University will lead the project, working in collaboration with a small group of partner HEIs over a period of 1 year, with the aim of contributing to building each organisation’s capability to realise the transformational power of IT for higher education.

Key objectives
  • Further enhance the leadership skills of senior managers engaged in IT-enabled transformation.
  • Enhance benefits realisation from real, current projects at Newcastle University (including some already underway, or about to start).
  • Build up a ‘toolkit’ of good practice and capture it in formats that allow for multiple use and re-application across Newcastle University and other HEIs.
Outcomes

This web site will provide information on the programme as work progresses. It will also provide access to the case studies, toolkit and other outcomes from the work.
